KINKY FUN
Kinky fun is one of the reasons I’m drawn to Second Life. There is so much to explore and I’m only just beginning. There are many opportunities to roleplay, connect and have fun with other kinky people.
I’m including some of my favorite BDSM groups, clubs, playgrounds and shops here. Please let me know which ones I need to add! I’m still just beginning to explore. More will be added soon!
NOTE: These links were active as of May 10, 2023. Locations change and sometimes disappear. I apologize in advance if some links don’t work for you. They did at the time of creation.
You may also need to be a certain age (usually 30 or 60 days) to visit some of these locations. You will be booted out if you don’t meet their age qualifications.
The RLV
RLV stands for Restrained Love Viewer. It’s a viewer (such as Firestorm) that allows other avatars limited control over some of the viewer functions. To activate the RLV function, you need to turn it on when you’re in the viewer. For Firestorm, go to AVATAR -> PREFERENCES (command P on a Mac) then to the Firestorm tab on the left. Check the top box that says “Allow Remote Scripted Viewer Controls (RLVa).” This will also create another menu item called RLVa for easy access to additional controls.
The next thing you’ll need is a “relay” that will pass through these external controls. Most of these in the BDSM world are in the form of a collar but there are also necklaces, rings, bracelets and even invisible objects that will do the same thing. Open Collar offers a free relay in the form of a collar to help you get started. You add it to your avatar the same as you’d add another article of clothing.
Once it’s attached, click on it to open up its options.
- Click RLV to turn it on or off.
- In this same menu, click RELAY for additional options.
- You can turn the relay off here as well or where people need to ask to use it or put it on auto.
- You can also assign who has control over it – the wearer, an owner or a trustee.
You can also lock it from this menu.
There is a lot more to the RLV than I’ve included here but these are the basics. I’ll update this section as I learn more but in the meantime, you can read more about it at OpenCollar’s website.
If you ever get stuck in an RLV situation you can’t get out of, you can always quit the RLV viewer and login using a non-RLV viewer, such as the Second Life viewer, detach the offending relay and then relog into the browser of your choice. If you’re in the middle of roleplaying, doing this is very much frowned upon but it’s a great method to use if needed.
Kinky Clubs
Kinky clubs are a quick and fun way to connect with like-minded people. They usually host DJs and dance nights (almost every night). Join the groups of your favorites to receive notifications for when events are happening so you can engage with the most people. I’ve found everyone super warm and welcoming.
You can chat with people in the “nearby chat” box and instant message (IM) people if you want. Right-click on any avatar to view their profile to learn more about them. You can also IM people by doing this.

Kinky Roleplaying
Many many MANY people love to roleplay kinky scenarios. Even in a virtual world, be sure to stay safe. Don’t give out personal info to anyone. Don’t let anyone you don’t know and/or trust collar you or transport you anywhere UNLESS that’s an essential part of roleplaying. Include any limits you have in your profile. And above all else, have fun!
I’m including some of the more interesting ones I’ve encountered.

Kinky Clothes + Gear
One of my favorite parts of Second Life so far has been the enormous amount of clothes and accessories available, especially for female avatars. It’s been so much fun dressing up in kink and fetish outfits.
You can shop for kinky clothes and gear in the online Second Life marketplace and in Second Life itself. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Demo everything prior to purchasing, including jewelry and accessories. Most creators offer this option. If not, ensure it states that it works with your body.
Shopping on the marketplace is the quickest way and excellent if you’re looking for something specific. It has a search option as well as has things categorized. I started out shopping this way, looking for clothes that were $0 to $10L. I found a lot of great pieces this way however be sure to demo clothes (try them on) before purchasing to ensure they fit and you like how they look on.
Shopping in Second Life itself is fun and you can find things you didn’t know you were looking for this way. There are several regular sales events and this is a great way to build up your wardrobe at a reasonable price.
